The 2001 Minnesota Kite Society Annual Business Meetingand Auction was held at My Le Hoa restaurant on February 17, 2001.
The banquet hall was decorated with many kites including these two Rokakku’s given to the MKS by a Japanese Kite Club in 1994.
Additional decorations included the varied and beautiful donated kites and tails that would be sold during the regular open auction.
Many world famous kite-makers donated items to the MKS Auction and spirited bidding led by John Hanssen helps fund 2001 activities.
Two amazing mechanical kites were on display for the event, designed and built by Chinese master Zhang Tianwei and on loan to MKS member Hsu. They attracted a lot of attention and interest.
During the Social Hour and continuing through dinner, a wide variety of Silent Auction items were scrutinized and bid upon.
Bidding was high-spirited and strategic as members tried to win the bid and take possession of the objects of their desire.
Prior to the MKS Business Meeting, a six course Chinese meal was was delightfully served and thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
Tim Hansen announced the closing of Silent Auction bids, standing in front of a beautiful 13 foot ghenki, which he now owns.
Election of Officers and Awards are on the agenda of the MKS Business Meeting, presided over by outgoing President Paul Koepke who was thanked for his service by incoming President Jim Bateman.
President’s Awards went to Pam Hodges and Owen Grossman, with Ken Runke receiving honors as MKS Kite Flyer of the Year
Brad Klages presented many Kite Fool awards and the Infamous Lead Kite award will be shared by Peggy Teasley and Dave Gangler.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Hod Taylor Award(s) to Don Jaspers and to Brad Klages (center). Presenting the awards were past winners, Jerry Houk and Pam Hodges.
