This is the Minnesota Kite Society's BIG summer kite festival! This event will take place at the combined ball fields of Valley View Middle School and Valley View Elementary School. The ball fields are located northwest of the intersection of 90th Street and Portland Avenue South in Bloomington, MN. The lower level middle school fields, at 8900 Portland Avenue South, will be where kite activities will originate. See below for a list of activities and demonstration flying. The upper level elementary school fields will be used by professional kite fliers who will fly their very large inflatable kites. Activities to include: - Kids' kite making workshop (125 free kites to be given out. After the free kites are gone, kites are $5 each while supplies last) - Kids' kite flying games - Bol Races - Glider & Candy drops - Sport kite demonstrations - Flying of giant show kites - Fun Fly for all ages (Bring your own kites and fly them!) This event is FREE and open to the public.

There will be Food and Kite vendors on site.

Sandy's Grill and Italian Ice will be selling their great food favorites.

The Mobile Truck serves delicious Italian Water Ices & Charbroiled Foods, sides and cold beverages in the Downtown Minneapolis and surrounding area.

You can get delicious Italian Water Ices & Sorbets, The Knockout Dog features an 1/4 pound Nathans All Beef Chicago Dog. You can find your favorite snack food items such as Mini Donuts, Cheese Curds, Chili Dogs, Nachoes & Cheese. Our Italian Water Ices & Sorbets are all fat & cholesterol free and come in a variety of flavors that are rotated in, such as, Cherry, Lemon, Sour Apple, Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, Coconut, Guava, Mango, Red Raspberry and many others.

Action Fireworks and Kites will be selling some great kites and lawn decorations.

Here are our planned activities on Saturday.

Kid’s kite making is planned for 11am – 3pm while supplies last. Kids can pick out a kite sail and design, then decorate the sail, add string and tails and go right out and fly! MKS has purchased supplies for 125 free kites to give away. They will be distributed first come first serve. Any remaining extra kite kits will be available for $5 until supplies are gone.

To make a kite in the workshop you will need to stop at our registration table and get a ticket. After the 125 free kites are gone you can purchase a ticket for $5 while supplies last. The tickets are traded in for the kite sail.
