  • North Hill Club in Stillwater kite fly Sunday, April 29 The Minnesota Kite Society received a request for fliers to attend a kite fly near Stillwater, MN this upcoming weekend. This is not an MKS sponsored event.  Here is the information about the fly if you would like to check it out. The club I coordinate in Stillwater, MN is call the North Hill Club. We have hosted a Kite Fest for our members the last 3 years but have never had any luck with wind. We are trying to make things more exciting this year.   • Kites Over Grinnell is Cancelled We received the following email today.WHAT:   Kites over Grinnell scheduled for May 12 & 13, 2012 is now CANCELLED. WHY:   The scheduling of soccer, indoor volleyball & Little League tournaments during the same dates prevents the use of needed field area and parking space. This situation also negates the possibility of AKA insurance coverage.  WHEN:  A future date for KOG has not been set.  PLEASE ACCEPT OUR SINCERE APOLOGIES FOR THE INCONVENIENCES THIS CANCELLATION CAUSES.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOYALTY & COMMITMENT  TO THIS FESTIVAL.  We hope to see you on a kite field sometime soon!Dick & Sis Vogel,  Rich May and other members of the KOG committee

  • St. Patrick's Day "Green" Fly on Saturday When:  Saturday, March 17, 2012     12:00pm until 4:00pm Where: Grey Cloud Elementary School, 9525 Indian Boulevard South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016 map   This is a regular monthly kite fly for Minnesota Kite Society (MKS) members. Non-members are welcomed to participate too. Everyone is encouraged to bring a kite to fly, especially one with green in it. Don't have a kite? No problem! Why You Should Join Our Club

The Minnesota Kite Society is dedicated to the promotion of kite flying throughout the State of Minnesota. The Minnesota Kite Society (MKS) is non-profit, non-discriminatory, all volunteer, and dedicated to widening the base of kite flying by providing information, assistance, and direction to interested parties.

MKS puts on kite flying events and kite building workshops helping to bring people into kiting. Kite flys are open to the public. All are welcome.

Flying kites has changed over the years. It's a great family activity. There are many kinds of kites, something for everyone.  The traditional single line kites, fancy show kites, duel-line and quad-line sport kites, fighters, traction/power kites. Kites can range from a couple dollars at the department store to several thousand dollars for the giant show kites.

 Tips for Safe and Courteous Kite Flying
  • Never fly a kite near power lines. Never fly a kite in the rain. (Avoid potential electrical hazards to prevent shocks!)
  • Never fly a stunt kite above people's heads or in an unsafe or reckless manner. (You could hurt yourself or someone else.)
  • Always be aware of where people are and where other's kites are when you are flying your kite.
  • Always follow the instructions before assembling and flying a kite. (You will have a safer and more enjoyable time flying it.)
  • If your flying line tangles with some else's line, walk towards that person to untangle them. (It's easier and it works!)
