Lake Harriet Kite Festival is CANCELLED

Post date: Jan 6, 2012 5:37:32 AM

Good Afternoon Fellow Kite Festival Members,

It is with great sadness, our 11th Annual Lake Harriet Kite Festival has cancelled. Based on reports fromMinneapolis Park and Recreation Board Maintenance Department and the DNR, Lake Harriet is not safe to have an event on the ice. As of yesterday afternoon, there was open water on the lake which causes a lot of water movement underneath that would comprise the ice. Also, there is 7 inches of ice near the refectory and bandstand about 100 yards from the shore line (which we need 12 solid inches of ice) to be safe and with upcoming warmer daytime temperatures next week, Minneapolis Park Board along withDNR, has decided to cancel Kite Fest for 2012.

We have put sign up on the bandstand letting the public know of the cancellation and if anyone has any questions, please let me know.

I would like to thank everyone for lending a helping hand in planning such a wonderful event and I look forward to working with each of you again.
